Do you remember… Habbo furni and credits?
Habbo Hotel opened its British doors in early 2001, and suddenly everyone had a tiny blocky avatar and an empty room with a bare floor. Filling it was the whole point.
Furniture in Habbo was called furni, and furni cost credits. Credits cost real money, often topped up by a text message that your parents found on the phone bill a month later. You saved for a sofa, a lamp, a plant and maybe a fridge, then spent an evening arranging them in that famous tilted view.
Then there were rares: the limited items that only appeared once in a while and became a currency all of their own. People traded them, guarded them and, yes, were occasionally scammed out of them by someone promising to “double your furni”.
Try to swear and the filter swapped the word for “bobba”, which somehow made it funnier. You weren’t just decorating a room. You were showing everyone exactly who you were, one chair at a time.
